Why Third-Party Peptide Testing Exists
In an ideal market, every vial would arrive with a batch-matched Certificate of Analysis from the manufacturer. In practice, researchers learned the hard way that some vendors ship fabricated or recycled documents, and the community responded by building an independent verification layer. Today, sending a sample to a third-party peptide testing lab before trusting a new supplier is standard due diligence — a practice our own supplier evaluation guide recommends for every vendor, ourselves included.
The Major Independent Testing Labs
Janoshik testing lab is the best-known independent peptide testing service in the research community: customers mail a small aliquot of their order, and the lab runs LC-MS/MS and HPLC to report identity, purity and — where the method allows — quantitative fill content. Janoshik peptide test results circulate widely on forums and Reddit, and "peptides Janoshik tested" has become shorthand for independently verified product.
Finnrick Peptide Testing (also searched as finrick peptide testing, finnrick peptides, finnick peptide test) is a newer generation of verification services that followed the same model: mail-in aliquots, LC-MS identity confirmation, purity reporting and photographic documentation of vials and labels. If you are wondering "is Finnrick peptide testing legit?", apply the same logic as for suppliers: published methodology, consistent report format, verifiable instrument data (real chromatograms have baselines, noise and system peaks) and a track record of reporting bad results — a lab that only ever confirms purity is not testing anything.

Purity vs Net Peptide Content vs Fill Mass
Three numbers that unethical marketing deliberately blurs. Chromatographic purity is the fraction of peptide species in the main HPLC peak. Net peptide content is the fraction of total vial mass that is peptide rather than water, counter-ion (TFA/acetate) and salts — measured by amino-acid analysis or quantitative UV. Fill mass is the total lyophilized weight in the vial. A "5 mg peptide" vial might contain 5 mg total fill, of which 80% is peptide (4 mg), of which 98% is the correct sequence (3.92 mg). Vendors that report only one of these numbers are leaving you to guess the rest; we report all three.
Spotting Fabricated Documentation
- Same chromatogram reused across "batches" — reverse-image search the trace.
- Round-number purities (exactly 99.0%) with no retention time or column detail.
- MS "confirmation" showing one peak at nominal mass for a 5 kDa peptide.
- PDF metadata revealing design software as the author, or creation dates after the test date.
- COAs that never show a failed result across hundreds of batches — statistically implausible.
