The Evidence Hierarchy

Among peptides, topical GHK-Cu has the deepest record: in vitro work on dermal papilla cells, wound-healing models where it was first characterized, and small clinical studies on hair density. Biotinyl-tripeptide complexes appear in cosmetic studies with weaker designs. Nothing in the peptide category matches the randomized evidence of approved minoxidil or finasteride.

For lashes, the products with real growth data are prostaglandin-analogue serums; peptide lash serums generally deliver conditioning and modest lengthening. Read the active ingredient list before the marketing copy.

Delivery Is Most of the Battle

Peptides are large and polar; naked peptide in plain water does not efficiently cross the stratum corneum. Effective formulas use liposomes, penetration enhancers or carrier systems — and stability data proving the peptide survives in the bottle.

Copper peptides are deactivated by many common preservatives and reducing agents; oxidized GHK-Cu changes color visibly. A stated concentration, stabilization system and intact batch code are the three things to check before buying.

Realistic Timelines and Combinations

Follicle responses build over 12–16 weeks of consistent use and then plateau. Combining peptides with approved therapies is mechanistically rational: peptides target signaling and repair pathways, minoxidil vascular support. Photograph the same region under identical lighting at baseline and week 12 to evaluate honestly.

Scalp irritation is usually attributable to formulation excipients rather than the peptide itself; discontinue if irritation persists.
